Opportunities for Training

We have a fantastic team of Lab Leadership, Graduate Students, and Research Assistants who play an integral role in our research! If you are interested in contributing to our research, please read below and contact us for more information and qualification requirements.

Prospective Graduate Students

Graduate students in our lab often participate in our ongoing research projects and are encouraged to develop and implement their own independent research projects within our lab. If you have specific questions about applying to ASU's Graduate Program in Developmental or Clinical Psychology and are interested in the work in our laboratory, please contact us or visit the ASU website for more information.

Prospective Research Assistants

Research Assistants in the @HEART Lab have the opportunity to participate in a variety of research experiences. They are exposed to all stages of the research process, including learning how research ideas are generated, how research studies are designed to test hypotheses, what research methods are used, and how data are collected and analyzed. Typical RA opportunities include attending weekly meetings, discussing research articles, participating in active data collection, entering data, and participating on data coding teams. Undergraduate students in the lab also have the opportunity to work on individual research projects under the mentorship of Dr. Ha and graduate students, including literature reviews, data analysis projects, and honors theses.

We generally hold two recruitment cycles each year, once in the Fall, and once in the Spring. We typically receive a high volume of applications and have a limited number of spots available; we appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and encourage all interested candidates to apply.

Application Deadline: 07/18/2025

Over the summer, we will carefully review all submitted applications. If selected for an interview, we will reach out to schedule meetings in early August.

Students interested in applying for a 399/499 Research Assistant position should meet the following criteria:

  • good academic standing

  • can commit to a minimum of 6 hours per week

  • interested in pursuing graduate education & research in psychology

  • conscientious, curious, and able to learn through hands-on experience

All students interested in a RA position through PSY 399 of 499 are required to obtain permission from Dr. Ha before enrolling in the class.

Those interested in applying as a Volunteer RA will still be expected to meet all of the above requirements. Instead of earning course credit, Volunteer RAs may record their hours for various purposes.
